Shiny launches new women's football blog in time for World Cup - Kickster.tv

Kicksterheader425width_2 Following hot on the heels of our latest Club Pies launches, our Scrumbag relaunch and Who Ate All The Pies' spiffing new redesign, Shiny Media today announces the launch of its blog dedicated to women's football - Kickster.tv.

With the women's World Cup just days away, Kickster will bring you all the latest news in the lead-up to the tournament, plus expert match reports as the cup progresses. After that it'll be back to the domestic season - which was dominated last year by Arsenal Ladies, giving poor fans of the male Gunners something to cheer in an otherwise trophy-free season.

Edited by Carrie Dunn, who has been writing for our cricket site The Googly for some time while also making contributions to The Times, The Guardian and thelondonpaper, Kickster aims to show that women's football can be every bit as exciting as its male counterpart. Carrie is ably assisted by Georgina Turner, winner of the 2005 "New Online Journalist of the Year" award, who has written for FourFourTwo magazine and also contributes to The Guardian.

With professional women's soccer slated to relaunch Stateside in 2009, plus next year's Olympics to look forward to, there's plenty to indicate that women's football is set to continue the growth which has seen it become one of the most popular sports among women in the US.

Stick with Kickster for all the best coverage!

Shiny launches US blog network - Shiny US

Stylelogo Shiny launches the Shiny US blog network with Shiny Style and Shiny Gloss.

Are we bonkers? A couple of weeks back I told someone that we were on the verge of launching a blog network in the US. They told me that I was trying to sell ice to the Eskimos. Mmm.

Over the past few decades many Brits have tried to crack America. Some like Simon Cowell have charmed our transatlantic cousins with his high buttoned trousers and snarling sarcasm. Others like Oasis, Ainsley Harriot and have been back in Blighty with their tails between their legs.

So is Shiny stupid having a crack at the US? Well we are actually already in the Cowell camp stateside as many of our blogs boast strong and devoted US readerships. None more so than our fashion blogs Catwalk Queen, Shoewawa and The Bag Lady all of which featured in a top ten fashion blogs read by American survey conducted by FashionIq. Needless to say they are well clear of any potential rivals in the UK.

Shiny launches five new football blogs

Britain in July was a pretty miserable place. Rubbish weather, Biblical style floods, and nothing else on the TV other than the never-ceasing freak show that is Big Brother.

Fortunately it is now August, the sun is back (for a few weeks anyhow), and best of all the new football season kicks off this weekend. Never one to miss a bandwagon Shiny is celebrating 2007-2008 with the launch of no fewer than five new football blogs. Actually we do have a little form in this area. Our World cup blog Who ate all the Bratwurst was a huge hit last summer and its bastard premiership offspring, Who ate all the Pies has gone from zero readers to over 300,000 in less than a year.

So we are now expanding our Pies range by adding blogs for the big four football teams, Arsenal (arsenalpies. tv) Manchester United (manunitedpies.tv), Chelsea (chelseapies.tv), Liverpool (liverpoolpies.tv) oh and come other north London chancers  too (spurspies.tv). All the blogs stick to our winning Pies template of incisive opinion, quirky stories, the best of YouTube and, err, WAG profiles. They will also be updated between 10-5 timers per day, so each time you check back there will be some news snippet, mini rant or video to check out.

They are also the first blogs to feature our brand new Shiny template which, as I hope you’ll discover, makes it much easier to find your way round our sites. There are going to be a few additions to the design over the coming month including a video player and some interesting community elements. But that’s for later. For now rejoice in the fact that from here on in Saturday afternoon trips to Ikea are totally off limits. Football is back and if you are a fan of the big four (cough), big five, then it is time to chomp on our new pies.

Ashley

Shiny launches four new blogs

Available_2Some psychologist recently worked out that the most miserable day of the year is sometime towards the end of January. He is of course very wrong. For myself and probably quite a chunk of the UK population I imagine that last Thursday May 24th will go down as the bleakest 24 hours of the year.

For on that day the Champions League final, the last big game of the season, was history and a long football-free summer stretched out ahead. What made it even worse was the knowledge that the new Big Brother series was just six days away.

Of course it is very fashionable to slag Big Brother off at the beginning and then to catch the odd episode in week three before becoming completely addicted by week five. Trust me though, I will be anywhere but in front of a TV set between 9-10 each evening for the next 13 weeks. For those who don't quite share my jaundiced views Shiny has launched availableforpanto.com, our take on reality television which will feature Joseph, Grease, X-Factor, Love Island (if we have to) and more. For the moment though the blog is very focused on the TV freak show that is Big Brother. It is also the first Shiny blog to be sponsored from launch, with the investment coming from Virgin Games.

For those like me who want to escape the TV freakshows, there's Shiny new travel blog - lostweekend.tv. 'Trip Advisor meets mid 90s Loaded' is how we are billing it, and yes it is more about short footy trips, stag weekends and European music festivals than romantic breaks. Lost Weekend is currently running a competition with the first prize being an all expenses paid trip to see David Beckham's debut for the LA Galaxy.

We have two other new launches. Kerching.tv is Shiny's first foray into the world of personal finance. Edited by Paul Sorene of anorak.co.uk fame, the blog will offer an authoritative but slightly quirky take on mortgages, shopping and investing. Finally Shiny has unveiled mychemicaltoilet.com, which rounds up all the latest news on the ever-growing number of European music festivals.

Two new ladyblogs from Shiny Media: Dollymix and Crafty Crafty

We've been so busy making lots of shiny new blogs recently that we haven't stopped to update devotees of the official Shiny Media blog (of which I'm sure there are many). Those of you who already read and enjoy the more female focused sites in the Shiny stable should love these latest launches.

Dollymix

Dollymix is the combined ladythoughts of our enormous female blogging team, with all the many and varied opinions they have to offer. If you like women's magazines but can't stand that all-knowing editorial voice, or if you like a spot of feisty feminism but don't want to leave your sense of humour in the coat check, Dollymix is ready to welcome you into the fold.

Crafty_logo_2
Crafty Crafty. Crochet, knitting, sewing, clever things to do with paper and all manner of other hobbies are explored in this lovingly crafted site. Making things is very popular right now and if you fancy taking some scissors to an old t-shirt, re-covering your sofa, or making yourself a nice hat, this is the blog for you.

Shiny Media launches Graduate Fashion Week Live blog

gfwlivehome.jpg

Here at Shiny Media we are delighted to announce that in association with River Island we have launched Graduate Fashion Week Live - the official blog for this year's GFW. Graduate Fashion Week began in 1991 and is the premiere event for showcasing the very best in fashion talent that the UK has to offer. It has helped to launch the careers of such famous designers as John Galliano, Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney. The event is being held at Battersea Park from June 3rd - June 7th and the best bit is that it's completely open to the public! That's right, anyone can attend without having to resort to the line "but don't you know who I am?"

Shiny launches Twitterati - a blog about, you guessed it Twitter

Twitter_logo Twitter - passing fad or the future for messaging on the web and phones? Well we don't know either. We do know though that Twitter is fantastically addictive, so we have launched Twitterati, a baby blog devoted to Twittering. Stu Dredge and his team will be keeping you up to speed with the many new and varied applications for Twitter, picking up on some of its odd uses and interviewing the people who are using the service to do creative things. Twitter users can also keep tabs on the blog via its Twitter feed - twitter.com/twitterati

Shiny Media goes gaming - new PS3 and Xbox blogs

Over the past few years we have dipped our toe in the gaming blogosphere with Games Digest and Wii Wii. Emboldened by success with those titles, especially the Wii blog, we are set to jump right in with a whole slew of games titles. We actually launched our PS3 blog pspsps.tv (geddit?) a few weeks back and it has been going really well hitting figures way beyond our expectations. It has now been joined by an Xbox blog Xboxer.tv and there will be at least three or four more Shiny games blogs before the month is out. We also have a Shiny Games YouTube channel with Shiny’s very own Mark Kermode, Simon Munk, loving or dissing the new releases.

Shiny Media launches iPhonic - a blog about some phone or other

iphonic%20logo.jpg

There are some folk round here who reckon that the only gadget launch that really matters this year is, you guessed it, the Apple iPhone. So we have decided to give them their own blog. Over at iPhonic, Apple die-hard Andy Merrett will be waxing lyrical about Apple’s forthcoming phone.

He'll be

* Highlighting its killer features (and, in the interest of fair play, its odd weakness)
* Focusing on its technology
* Gauging how much impact it will have on the mobile phone world on both sides of the Atlantic
* Checking out all the rumours and gossip
* Making predictions as to where Apple will take the iPhone

iPhonic will also keeps tabs on the iPhone’s rival handsets (Nokia N95, LG Prada etc) and also the mobile services that are set to take on iTunes. All this and more on iPhonic

Shiny Media launches Techscape

Shiny Media launches Techscape.tv

The UK’s biggest blogging network unveils its latest technology blog.

TechScape is Shiny Media’s sideways look at the wonderful world of the web, or web 2.0 to be precise, from a UK perspective. It isn’t all about UK start ups, and it isn’t just reviews of social networking sites either.

Instead TechScape will bring you

• Interviews with the main movers in the UK’s web 2.0 world
• Reviews of the key new web 2.0 projects
• Daily round ups and comment on the big stories
• An examination of how brands are engaging with the new generation of websites

Most important of all we’ll be tracking the journey all those amazing innovative web 2.0 sites (YouTube, My Space and many others) make from the PC to the mobile phone.

All this plus a dollop of traditional Shiny Media tomfoolery.

Techscape is edited by Stuart Dredge, who has been writing about both the web and mobile phones for many years now. He’s ably supported by Andy Merrett, Dep Ed of Techdigest.tv and owner of the innovative Blue Fish Network and Shiny’s CEO and mobile phone-aholic Ashley Norris.

About Shiny Media * The UK’s first and largest commercial weblog publishing company * Attracts 2.8 million unique visitors a month to its network of 22 blogs. * Shiny Media’s blogs have been featured in newspapers and magazines on both sides of the Atlantic including; The Guardian, USA Today, International Herald Tribune, The Sun, Daily Mirror, Vogue, Elle, Time Magazine and the Financial Times. For more information about the new blog or Shiny Media contact Ashley Norris here.

Shiny's WiiWii and Nollie

So how many blogs does Shiny Media have? Well I lost count when we got beyond the number of fingers I own. It is 20-something now. Anyhow, we are very excited to announce two more.

Nollie - Our first blog for, beat, extreme girls. No, not women hopelessly addicted to pink hello kitty gadgets (we have Shiny Shiny for that) rather Nollie is the first blog for snowboarders, surfers and other extreme sports lovers that's written by women for women.

Edited by Charlotte Howells (of Kiss and Make Up) fame, Nollie will feature the latest extreme goss, check out the coolest gear and feature our trademark how to videos.

WiiWii - The first Nintendo blog to really take the piss, WiiWii is a bug-eyed view of the exciting new games console written by Shiny star writer Stuart Dredge. It'll round up the latest games, funkiest accessories and most bizarre gaming videos.

Shiny Media launches Brandish

Hey we are launching again.

Brandish, Shiny Media's new site dedicated to The Coolest Stuff in the World for blokes is now live and kicking. It'll feature must-have gadgets, fashion that won't make you look like a metrosexual arsehead, illegally fast cars, fine Cuban cigars, that sort of thing.

Only the best stuff gets in – Brandish is like an exclusive gentlemen's club, but without the high-backed, red leather chairs, smug ex-Eton schoolboys and extortionate membership fees.

It is edited by Ollie Irish, top pie-eater , freelance gadget-a-soarus and one time Editor of Stuff Magazine.

Shiny Media's Premiership football blog

Who Ate All the Pies – the new football blog with a great engine and sweet left foot 'I know what is around the corner -

'I just don't know where the corner is. But the onus is on us to perform and we must control the bandwagon.' Kevin Keegan

Now that the domestic football season is under way, Shiny Media would like to remind you about its new website devoted to British football, namely Who Ate All the Pies. Shiny enjoyed great success with its World Cup blog, Who Ate All the Bratwurst, and now it's turning its attention to the Premier League (we'll also cover the big news from Scotland and the lower leagues too).

We have no Russian billionaire to help us, but with a little bit of luck, Brian, we can dominate the game for many seasons to come.

Shiny Media launches TechReviews.tv - a new kind of gadgets website

Shiny Media launches TechReviews.tv (www.techreviews.tv) a new type of gadgets reviews website

The UK’s leading new media company Shiny Media has reinvented the gadgets review website with the launch of its latest blog TechReviews.tv

This is the first gadget site to major on video reviews of products,’ says Shiny Media’s creative director, Ashley Norris. ‘For the first time readers, or maybe we should call them viewers, can get a really close look at gadgets like mobiles and MP3 players.’ ‘They will be able to see the way a mobile phone screen twists round, examine the tiny buttons on a music player or see quite how daft a pair of earphones looks when they are being worn.’

Already a hit on Shiny Media's Tech Digest and Shiny Shiny websites the video reviews are also among the most popular technology videos on the video hosting YouTube website. At the time of writing Shiny Media has two of the Top 10 most viewed Science and Technology videos on the site this week.

The site also has traditional style text reviews of products and will feature regular product round ups.

'Shiny recognises that TechReviews isn’t the only great source of reviews online,‘ says editorial director Katie Lee, ‘so each day the site will find out what bloggers and other reviewers around the web are saying about a particular product.’

‘Plus, through the comments section readers can add their own thoughts about products, making this a truly interactive reviews site. After all, while TechReviews may be among the first to publish a review of a product, its opinions aren't necessarily always the last word.’

About Shiny Media

Shiny Media has four of the fastest growing tech websites in the UK in Tech Digest, Shiny Shiny, HDTVUK and Propellerhead. The sites together deliver more than 600,000 unique users each month.

In a poll among PRs for UK trade paper PR Week, Tech Digest and Shiny Shiny were voted as two of the four most influential gadget websites in the UK alongside the BBC and The Sun’s Gizmo.

In an interview for the Financial Times, Sky’s CEO James Murdoch cited HDTVUK as his favourite online read.

Shiny Media facts and figures

* The UK’s first and largest commercial weblog publishing company

* Attracts 1.6 million unique visitors a month to its network of 24 blogs.

* Shiny Media’s blogs have been featured in newspapers and magazines on both sides of the Atlantic including; The Guardian, USA Today, International Herald Tribune, The Sun, Daily Mirror, Vogue, Elle, Time Magazine and the Financial Times.

Shiny launches Kiss and Make Up (and StarTrip)

Kmumini_1 Other than an ill-advised Goth phase in the eighties I haven't really spend too much time familiarising myself with make up. If I had morphed into Cambridgeshire's answer to Marilyn Manson though I suspect I'd have a better take on Shiny's latest blog Kiss and Make Up.

Shiny's head fashion honcho Gemma tells me that Kiss and Makeup will solve all your beauty woes, give you the skinny on the latest offers and freebies, and guide you through the world of cosmetics in our usual slightly sarcastic way. Streaky fake tan and melting mascara will apparently be a thing of the past!

Shiny also recently launched a goss blog in Star Trip, but for some inexplicable reason it hasn't been featured here yet.

Star Trip, an unashamedly trashy celeb gossip blog, bringing you all the goss on 'slebs like Brangelina,  TomKat, The Federlines, La Lohan, The Hiltons and the one-man powerhouse that is the Clooney. Never again will you need to spent £1.45 on Heat magazine or hide OK! underneath a stategically placed copy of The Guardian. Bookmark StarTrip.tv now and you'll be the first to know when Pete Doherty falls off the wagon (again).

Shiny Media launches Who ate all the Bratwurst?

Bratwurst_logo With the insight of a Platini pass, the invention of a Cruyff turn and the sense of humour of Carlos Valderrama's barber, Shiny Media introduces Who ate all the Bratwurst, the only World Cup blog worth its transfer fee. Wilkommen to you all.

Over the next two months in the build-up to the planet's greatest sporting event, and during Germany '06 itself, WaatB will be the site to visit for World Cup news, views, team and venue guides, features, live game blogs, competitions and much more cool stuff.

So bookmark us now, lie back and think of England... because fußball's coming home.

WaatB is Shiny Media's 20th blog. The company is the leading commercial weblog company in the UK and its sites attract a monthly audience of over a million unique visitors.

New Sports Blog From Shiny Media: The Googly

The_googly

Attention all sports fans. The Googly, Shiny Media's latest sports blog, has just gone public. Being the clever souls that we are, we've launched it just in time for England's first Test against India so you can find out all about just how badly it's going for England already.

Edited by Will Luke, creator of The Corridor of Uncertainty cricket blog, with regular contributions from sports writer extraordinaire, Gideon Haigh, The Googly is just the place for a bit of cricket chat during your break for lunch or tea.

This is Shiny Media's second foray into the world of sports bloggery, the first one being our rugby blog, Scrumbag. So if you're that way inclined, you can now get your daily fix of sporting news, reviews and gossip in handy bitesize chunks.

The Googly
Scrumbag

Shiny gets down and dirty with Scrumbag

Scrumtop Shiny Media gets down in the dirt with Scrumbag

The UK's first and largest commercial weblog publishing company, Shiny Media (www.shinymedia.com) is very proud to announce the arrival of its latest blog - that's 17 if you are counting - Scrumbag (www.scrumbag.tv)

Dedicated to the favourite sport of at least half of the SM team - Rugby Union - Scrumbag is a sharp, pointed and often very witty look at men, their odd shaped balls and the culture that surrounds them. But in true Shiny tradition it is written by a largely female team with ace blogger Toni Kelly, a rugby fanatic for many years, at the helm. Launched days before the start of the annual Six Nations competition Scrumbag will go where traditional rugby sites don't dare venture offering forthright and controversial opinions on the game's key issues.

Toni and her team will also keep Union fans up to speed on where they can watch the games - both live and on TV - what the latest gossip on the players is as well as in true Shiny style offering the odd Rugger fashion tip and spotting the best Rugby bargains on eBay.

'We are really excited about both Rugby and Scrumbag' says Shiny's Creative Director Ashley Norris. 'The southern hemisphere teams might have had it all their own way recently, but there's a real buzz around a couple of the European sides and by the time the World Cup starts next year anything could happen.' 'With a really knowledgeable and enthusiastic team of writers in place Scrumbag is fantastically placed to capture the excitement of the international game as well as keep hardcore fans abreast of what is happening domestically.'

Shiny Media Launches TV Scoop

Tv_scoop

So who do you think you are kidding Mr Larry David and Mr Kiefer Sutherland, if you think the Beeb and C4 are toast?

Well after a few years in the doldrums British TV's home guard is fighting back with top series like Little Britain, Peep Show and Shameless. And to celebrate this Shiny Media has launched TV Scoop the first and last word on the best of telly from the country what invented it.

It has all the top goss on what series is coming when and who is playing who, as well as reviews of the big new shows and the odd wander down memory lane (err that'll be infantile posts about Tiswas then) Loads of stories, lots of lists, top tips on DVDs and celeb eBay cast offs to buy, updates about High Def Telly and digital TV recorders and there’s even the odd post about when the coolest US shows are landing over here.

Edited by sometime Shiny Shiny and Bayraider contributer, freelance journalist, and TV-obsessive, Jane Hoskyn,  TV Scoop is the perfect place for telly addicts desperate for a work-time fix of their favourite shows.

Aimed at and written by Coronation Street obsessives, the blog promises reviews and previews of every episode, juicy gossip about all of the characters and the lowdown on what Corrie actors - both past and present - are up to. For example, did you know that Sean Wilson, best known as mardy arse Martin Platt, is hotly tipped to appear in the next series of Ant and Dec's I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here following his departure from the street?

Or that Jack Duckworth actor, Bill Tarmey, is set to go starkers in the street in the New Year - it doesn't bare thinking about! Find out all this and more at CorrieBlog.tv

Shiny in The Sun and Guardian

Big day for Shiny Media yesterday as we got coverage in The Sun and The Guardian. The Sun gave a glowing review to our new blog Bayraider, with the journalist later telling us that the story had been the eighth most popular story on the site that day. Mental note to self: next time you launch a blog try and avoid Royal Weddings, elections, funerals and Championship league football games, and who knows where you’ll end up.

Over at The Guardian, blogologist Jane Peronne, wrote that the future is Shiny, adding ‘While Shiny Media has not reached the size of US commercial blog publishers Weblogs Inc and Gawker, it is leading the way in the UK scene of what is becoming known as nanopublishing. Last month, Shiny secured an advertising campaign from Dyson's, and has added two more blogs to its portfolio. Hippyshopper is a green consumer blog aimed at UK readers, while Bayraider features the highlights of the wilder reaches of eBay, covering everything from tacky royal wedding memorabilia to life-sized Yoda models.’

Bayraider also got loads of coverage across the web including mentions on Net Imperative, Problogger and the Blog Herald.

Shiny Media launches Bayraider

Bayraider_1 Well here's our ninth blog; Bayraider Press release is below.

Shiny Media launches Bayraider (www.bayraider.tv) - a trip through the dark side of eBay and other auction sites

People put some amazing things up on online auction sites, but sadly most of the time the sale of Charles and Diana divorce plates, fake dinosaur eggs and George W Bush in drag playing cards slip quietly by. Not any more though because you'll find all the freakiest stuff the online auction world has to offer along with a great deal else at Bayraider (www.bayraider.tv) which launches today.

Published by the UK's leading commercial weblog company, Shiny Media, Bayraider is on a mission to dig out all that's best on eBay and its rival auction sites.

Each day its readers will find • The most bizarre stuff ever offered for sale, from haunted Nintendo games consoles through to likenesses of famous sports stars in potato chips • The coolest collectibles from Elvis pinball machines through to life-size Dr Who Daleks • Celebrity cast-offs from shoes once worn by the famous through to the bags they used to carry their pet dogs in • The coolest gadgets and toys including amazing Japanese items that are not officially for sale in the US and UK • Hot shots, incredible bargains nearing the end of their auctions

This week we have got some wedding present ideas for Charles and Camilla, some apparently vital evidence missing from the Michael Jackson trial and the story of how some eBayers are already trying to cash in on the death of Pope John Paul II.

Bayraider will also deliver all the latest auction site news and offer hints and tips on selling items. If you love bidding on online auctions sites, or maybe just enjoy sniggering at the bizarre things people try and sell then you've got to bookmark Bayraider.

Shiny Media launches Hippyshopper

Hippyshopper_logo_1 My, have we been busy!? Here's Hippyshopper, the first of two blogs that we are launching this week.

Hippyshopper, a blog about ethical consumerism, is something of a departure for us as, unlike most of our sites, it is very UK focussed.  It is edited by Adam Vaughan, the Managing Editor of Stuff magazine in the UK, and a man who knows more about biodegradeable mobile phones than any other journalist.

Here's the release

Shiny Media launches Hippyshopper (www.hippyshopper.com) - the UK's first Green Consumer blog Heard about Motorola's biodegradable mobile phone? Or the toothpaste-free solar toothbrush? Or even Nike's green ethically-sourced shoes?! You'll find them all at Hippyshopper (www.hippyshopper.com) - the UK's first blog about ethical consumerism which launches today.

Published by the UK's leading commercial weblog company, Shiny Media, and written by Stuff magazine's Managing Editor, Adam Vaughan, Hippyshopper aims to enlighten and amuse its readers with green news stories from the UK and links to environmentally friendly sites around the world.

Its daily updates will: • Track the latest green gadgets • Tip readers off about what's coming in the organic food market • Give details of green exhibitions • Offer updates on eco-friendly health and beauty products • Give tips on how to recycle products

The site kicks off with a competition to win a shed load of green stuff including: ten Solios - solar powered iPod/mobile phone chargers - five Adopt An Animal Panda Packs from the World Wildlife fund; ten copies of Save Cash and Save The Planet; and a Collins/Friends of the Earth book stuffed full of practical tips to help you be a bit greener.

Shiny introduces The Bag Lady

Baglady_copy_1 Well, we have been at it again. We are very pleased to announce that our first new blog of 2005, The Bag Lady, is set to debut on February 14th Valentine's Day.

Those familiar with our wonderful shoe blog Shoewawa will know what to expect; snappy, sassy and slightly sarcy copy, but instead of it being shoes under the Shiny microscope we will be trawling the web to find the coolest, and silliest bags and accessories.

Just like Shoewawa, The Bag Lady is written and edited by our very own style obsessive and long time web fashion editor Gemma Cartwright. We are kicking off this week with live coverage of the London Fashion Week. We'll have a further four blogs up and running by then end of March.
